Autumn in RED - 3D painting

This is a personal project that I made in the beginning of 2021.

The story of Red and her giant tree-wolf is one I’ve been exploring for years - I’ve tried to bring them to life in various mediums and with different personalities and storylines. They are ever-changing and close to my heart, and one day I hope to make a big project that tells their story.

Final animation and behind the scenes

This is the final piece, a roughly 12 second partial turnaround animation, that is meant to also tell a story: with the text being drawn in, with the animation of the leaves, and with the interact between the wolf and Red.

I made a video looking through every save file I made while I worked on this piece - over 20 in total, and explained the things I added or experimented with each step of the way.

For this piece, I wanted to remake an old favourite illustration, and while I was at it I decided to play around with all the grease pencil features I could. This is what excited me most about drawing in Blender: getting a 2D ‘painterly’ style, and then having the piece come to life.
